I do not live in a STATE. I have never lived in a STATE. I do not plan to ever live in a STATE. My country does not have STATES. How about you post less America-centric questions next time or make the community info clear that this community is only for Americans and not international users.

I am sorry that this question set wasn't to your liking. While the moderators do understand that not all countries have states, we would hope that people from those countries would insert their country's equivalent in an instance like this.

We post what other people have submitted, and hope that all question sets are taken in the lighthearted manner in which this community was created.

If you wish to submit a question set, please feel free to do so here.

I had hoped that you would consider your submissions in light of the fact that your community has international subscribers and would reject submissions that are centred around one specific country and therefore exclude your international subscribers.

If I submitted a set of questions that were unique to Canada, I'm sure you'd get lots of complaints from American users and other non-Canadians.

Quite a rude response. Do try to be more polite when posting with that "100% Canadian" icon, won't you?

Out of 374 total posts on this comm, I found a total of 6 question sets that could be seen as America-centric. And then, I decided to add in question sets that might be geared toward Independence Day and the US Thanksgiving, which adds an additional 16 posts maximum. This would bring the America-centric posts to a grand total of 22 out of 374, which would be a mere 5.9% of the total comm posts. I'm not sure how that makes this comm America-centric, but there you go.

All you had to do was politely suggest that with "states," include "territories/provinces/the equivalent in your country," instead of getting angry about it.

1. How many schools (up until college) have you attended, in all? Seven in total. We moved around a lot when I was young.
How many states have you lived in before the age of 18? How many countries? Just one state and that means obviously just one country. I grew up in Florida and absolutely loved it.
Have you ever seen the hospital where you were born -- where is it/what's it's name? I'm not sure of the hospital's name, but I know it's in Alachua, Florida. No, I've never been there.
Do you plan to live in the same state in which you were born, or somewhere else? Sadly, I had to leave Florida for health reasons. It turns out I am deathly allergic to mold and had to move to a drier climate. I'm temporarily in Colorado right now, but I plan on moving to Nevada or Arizona permanently.
Do you still talk to people from elementary school, middle-school or high school? I keep in touch with exactly one friend from high school, and that is only through Facebook. I was an awkward child and teenager and had a lot of trouble fitting in and making friends.

1) How many schools (up until college) have you attended, in all?
Five, if you count preschool: Preschool, one elementary school K-1, another elementary 2-6, middle school, high school.

2) How many states have you lived in before the age of 18? How many countries?
We lived in the same house my entire childhood, but we also had a vacation home in a neighboring state so maybe that counts as two states simultaneously? I didn't live outside the US before I was 18.

Have you ever seen the hospital where you were born -- where is it/what's it's name?
Yes, Elkhart General Hospital. Since stayed in the same town growing up (and my parents still live there), I've been there many times for the birth of my sister, my tonsil and appendix surgeries (and all the follow-up stuff), and the time my friend got in a car crash in high school. If I drove past I could point out the windows of rooms I stayed in.

Do you plan to live in the same state in which you were born, or somewhere else?
I don't plan to and I'd rather not. I went to college in another state, worked in another country for a couple years, and now I'm back in the US but in another state. While when I settle down and have a family I'd like to be in the same general region as my parents so we can see each other more than once a year, and I could maybe handle living on the opposite side of the state I grew up in, I don't want to live anywhere too recognizable from my childhood. I know millions of people stay in/return to their hometowns and traditionally it's the normal thing to do, but feels wrong to me somehow; I'd rather keep my "childhood home" and "adult home" as separate entities.

Do you still talk to people from elementary school, middle-school or high school?
Yes, from all three. I had the same classmates from 2-6 grade, most of whom I had classes with in middle and/or high school, too, so I'm friends with pretty much all of them on Facebook and I exchange messages with a few of them and arrange to meet up when we're in our hometown at the same time. One of my friends from middle school is still one of my best friends now. And I even got to see a few of my elementary school teachers over the holidays this year at a reunion event that was held. I stay pretty well connected to my past.

1. How many schools (up until college) have you attended, in all? Four in total. One elementary school for early childhood, another elementary school for K-4, middle school, and high school.
2. How many states have you lived in before the age of 18? How many countries? Only one and no other countries.
3. Have you ever seen the hospital where you were born -- where is it/what's it's name? I think I did but I can't really remember.
4. Do you plan to live in the same state in which you were born, or somewhere else? I was born in a different state but never lived there and I don't have any intention of ever moving there.
5. Do you still talk to people from elementary school, middle-school or high school? I still keep in touch with some of my friends from school. All grades. Actually one of the places I'm working at a friend from elementary school and a friend from middle school also work there and sometimes we get the chance to work together. I'm just as close with them as I was then.

I have no idea what age American children attend which school (or college for that matter, I have a vague idea that might be similar to our uni), but here are my answers:

Yeah, Americans tend to use "college" and "university" interchangeably, which is confusing since "college" means something else entirely depending where you are.

[info]larimoon

February 25 2012, 14:14:21 UTC 3 months ago

That's what I thought, I went to college after finishing secondary school at age 16 and did various courses but I wasn't sure if that counted (not that it matters as this is just for fun!)

It's getting even more confusing - some secondary schools over here have started calling themselves high schools but they cover a different age range than American high schools!

An Australian exchange student pointed out to me recently that what most people call a "college" in the U.S. and "uni(versity)" abroad is also called "school." It's common to ask a twenty-something, "Where do you go to school?" and get "the University of Texas" as a logical reply.

February 25 2012, 21:16:24 UTC 3 months ago

It's funny how the same words can have so many different meanings!

I went to college but not uni (couldn't afford it), but I only listed what we in the UK refer to as schools, i.e. up till age 16.

1. How many schools (up until college) have you attended, in all? 6. One school when I was like 3 (I don't know what you'd consider it), pre-school, 2 elementary schools, middle school, high school.
2. How many states have you lived in before the age of 18? How many countries? I've never permanently lived outside of New York, although we do have a summer home in Pennsylvania.
3. Have you ever seen the hospital where you were born -- where is it/what's it's name? Yes. South Nassau in Oceanside NY.
Do you plan to live in the same state in which you were born, or somewhere else? I would like to stay on Long Island but realistically I don't know that I'll be able to afford it when I no longer live with my parents. I wouldn't mind living in South Carolina though.
Do you still talk to people from elementary school, middle-school or high school? Yes, all of the above but I'm only 22 so that's not really that amazing.

1. How many schools (up until college) have you attended, in all?
Three

2. How many states have you lived in before the age of 18? How many countries?
No states. One county. One country (Wales).

3. Have you ever seen the hospital where you were born -- where is it/what's it's name?
I see it quite often when driving out of town. It's in St Asaph and its name is H M Stanley hospital (named after the explorer, Henry Morton Stanley)

4. Do you plan to live in the same state in which you were born, or somewhere else?
I currently live in the same county in which I was born, although I've lived in several others since I was 18. I have no plans to move elsewhere.

5. Do you still talk to people from elementary school, middle-school or high school?
I'm not sure what age group would attend elementary or middle school, but I'm still in touch with people I've known since primary school (age 4 - 11) and high school (age 11 - 18)

1.How many schools (up until college) have you attended, in all?

In total up until college, I went to 5 different schools.

1.How many states have you lived in before the age of 18? How many countries?

Lived in one state (Victoria) but also lived in countries that did not have states. So in reality lived in three different cities and three different countries.

Have you ever seen the hospital where you were born -- where is it/what's it's name?

Yeah, Silverstream Hospital

Do you plan to live in the same state in which you were born, or somewhere else?

I don't even live in the country I was born, so no chance of that. I'd like to eventually move to the States in the next three years.

Do you still talk to people from elementary school, middle-school or high school?

Not really any from high school although they found me on facebook and one fom middle school.

I enjoyed this set:

1. How many schools (up until college) did you attend in all?
-Not including preschool, three. Elementary (K-4), Middle (5-8), and high school (9-12).

2. How many states have you lived in before the age of 18?
-Sadly only one state. The state I currently find myself in.

3. Have you ever seen the hospital where you were born? Where is it? What's its name?
-I have seen the hospital where I was born. St. Joseph's here in Phx. And thankfully, I have never had to make a return visit. To that hospital at least.

4. Do you plan to live in the same state in which you were born, or somewhere else?
-I don't plan to live in the same state where I was born. I'd really enjoy getting to live and experience somewhere else. The problem is, AZ, minus the Summer time, has some of the best weather that I could really ask for.

5. Do you still talk to people from elementary, middle, or high school?
-Nope. If I see people, sure I'll talk. But I'm not actively looking out for people. There are some people I'd like to find though.

How many schools (up until college) have you attended, in all?

Three, if you include pre-1st grade schooling.

How many states have you lived in before the age of 18? How many countries?

Three US states, 2 countries, 1 province.

Have you ever seen the hospital where you were born -- where is it/what's it's name?

I saw it at the ripe old age of 18 when my parents decided it was time for me to see it. It's called St. John's Hospital, located in or near the city that never sleeps.

Do you plan to live in the same state in which you were born, or somewhere else?

Nope, as the living costs there are too high. I do plan on living in the same country, just in a state with slightly lower living costs but still near to cities.

Do you still talk to people from elementary school, middle-school or high school?

Yes. Since for a good portion of my schooling I went to a 1-12 grade school, many of my closest friends are the ones I've known since elementary & middle school. Also, Facebook makes keeping in touch so much easier and simpler.

My answers are on my blog, Lindsay Loves.

When I have commentary on the nature of the questions (which I know isn't the moderators' fault), I make them on my own blog, and when I want better questions, I think them up and submit them. (Questions I submitted have been chosen twice so far.)
