I would like to try sewing my own clothing and some fashion DIY.
2. Why did you not pursue these hobbies?
I don't have a sewing machine and I feel like I should maybe take a class or get some tips from a friend before I jump into it. I'll probably do it eventually, just when I'm living in a different place and have an apartment with more room for the materials.
3. Do you often feel limited by your financial state with how you spend your free time?
Thankfully, no. Right now I am making a good income for someone with no dependents, and have a fairly low cost of living. Plus most of the hobbies I enjoy-- writing, sketching, etc-- are fairly inexpensive. The ones that cost more, like traveling, I have the ability to save up for.
. Do your hobbies play a major part of your life, or help define who you are?
They definitely enrich my life, and the fact that I have hobbies makes me more than just a person with a job. However, I would shy away from saying that my hobbies *define* me. I notice here in Japan the attitude towards hobbies is that people tend to have one hobby they devote all their spare time to. (Starting in junior high school, when you pick one after-school activity that you do every day, all year-round O.o). So then your hobby says a lot about who you are, since you are probably better at it than your actual job. But as for me, I am not (and could never be) nearly so selective. I prefer to dabble in a wide variety of activities-- writing, drawing, playing music, writing music, cooking, fashion, walking, traveling, and more-- and prefer to be well-rounded in many things instead of an expert in just one. Plus I would be bored practicing the same activity every day. I like hobbies that I can stagger to suit my moods. That probably says more about me than the actual hobbies I do!
5. Do you have any hobbies you have made income from?
Nope. I'd like to make some money from my writing, and I could see myself making money for charity doing bake sales I bake for myself, but I haven't followed through with these yet.
