1. Growing up, what was your favorite thing about your birthday?
Essentially the same as it is now, getting to call the shots for the day, and just having it be something more *special* than the rest of the day.

2. What was the best present you've ever received?
I got my BA diploma on my birthday, lol.

3. What kind of cake did you usually have at your party?
I usually wanted chocolate in some form, whether chocolate cake or white/yellow cake but with chocolate icing. I preferred store-bought cake (homemade cake in our house had a habit of, um, ending up with like peach yogurt in the frosting or something nasty; I do not wax sentimental about home-baked goods from my childhood, lol) and I wanted the corner piece with at least one icing rose.

4. Did you have 2 separate parties: one for family, one for friends?
Sort of. Since I’m born in mid-May, we usually did a family Mother’s Day + my birthday brunch a week ahead of my birthday with my grandparents, where the mothers and I all got gifts. Then I usually had a birthday party (or some kind of birthday outing, like going out to eat and see a movie) with my friends, but not always.

5. Do you still have birthday parties?
Not in the typical sense of gathering up a bunch of people for drinking and cake, but usually I do something special with some friends. The past few years I’ve been lucky to have out of town friends in town over my birthday to do something fun.
